Printed and cursive Russian can look quite different at first, and there are countless stories of students who have.First of all, Russian cursive is not formalized, like English one. There are people, that don't connect letters and mix cursive and block letters in their writing. End goal is to write quickly in recognizable way. While good cursive is the best in this regard, it is not that easy to pick up and maintain.
While it is hard to understand, my Russian cursive is nigh on incomprehensible. This at least I can make out with some degree of certainty. And once you get used to the style, you can read it almost comfortably.
